Dry jam is the pride of old Slavic cuisine. This is the product that Smolensk was once famous for. Confects (Dry Jam) are fruits that are aged in syrup several times and then dried. Dry jam preserves all the useful substances of fresh fruits and unlike ordinary jam has less sugar in the composition. And this dessert is simply loved by children. The ancient alchemists knew about the benefits of jam. One of the most famous doctors-alchemists of antiquity Nostradamus spent his whole life looking for the secret of youth and even wrote a "treatise on the benefits of jam." He believed that if using jam cooking is possible to preserve fruits and berries, then, using it, it is possible to prolong youth. In the time of alchemy, jam was cooked not only from berries, but also from vegetables, herbs and nuts.

The Arab alchemist Abu Ibn Sina (known to us as Avicenna) was a court physician among the sultans and emirs and wrote over 450 works in his life. One of them contains medicines based on honey syrup with candied fruits. Healing syrup generously seasoned with spices and flowers. Avicenna prescribed such jam to all sick people, as well as for the prevention and improvement of overall well- being and mood. The recipe of such jam has reached our days.
